One half of Hyde equals one quarter Jekyll. : )

Style experiment! Staring at xxxHolic recently. I did a drawing in the same style for Jekyll and I want to do one for Thalia!Hyde too (god I want to draw BBC!Hyde but I'm TOO SCARED) . . . then inevitably the novelty will wear out and I'll realize that I'm just recycling my old shit as usual. D:

ANYWAY. Concept explanation! Thinking about Hyde as usual, I got to thinking how Jekyll says things like, "I can feel Hyde trying to get out" as a roundabout way of, "I'm having withdrawal symptoms." I've always thought that was a little off. So I got to thinking that there are really two expressions of Hyde: The portion of Jekyll's personality (prosperity), and the chemical effects of the HJ7 itself (survival).

Prosperity basically encompasses Hyde's consciousness and thus his desire to become a separate person from Jekyll. However he cannot control the effects of the HJ7 himself--his subconscious mind judges situations and the Survival portion acts based on whatever will keep the little bugger alive. Pretty soon, Survival figures out that keeping up Hyde's level of awareness (much faster heartbeat and a constant surge of various hormones and chemicals that are BOUND to do something bad eventually) for long periods of time is NOT a good thing and will actually revert him back to Jekyll after a period of about seven hours. Prosperity does not like this.

But by the way, Survival is not an extra "personality" as Hyde is for Jekyll. Hyde has about as much control over what his Survival part does as a girl does of her ovaries (hahah analogy). Survival is basically just a bunch of hormones working together--in a dangerous situation, Survival would be responsible for giving Hyde any "superhuman strength" or sudden ability to survive poisonings or whatever. (In ordinary situations he's not unnaturally strong, unlike your BBC!Jekyll)

Does it make sense? XD

...That's brilliant!

This might just be the whole "two in the morning" thing causing me to drastically exaggerate (and spell bad) everything I say (type), but I think you've stumbled on to something genius here!

Coincidence is a term used by those afraid of something bigger.

That is awesome! I love the whole idea and concept and stuff. And it's funny you should post this, I was just watching LXG last night :O

This is pretty cool! And yes, it does make sense. I had to re-read it once or twice, but yes, it makes sense. ^^

Eee! The xxxHolic style is what I've been studying, lately. That's where I got the eye style and profile for "I Want Him to Mean It." (and consequently, how I've been drawing Henry since. :XD: ) Isn't that just a beautiful manga?

Anyway, I love the ideas you've presented here. I never really thought about splitting Edward's personality into parts, to look at it. Facets, I mean, I know that you aren't talking about another J&H split. It's really something about which to think.

Yeah, and I totally mean to explain it better, too. D: By the way, did you know that, according to this year's Kaplan 100 Best Colleges guide or whatever, they actually cite Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as a "recommended book to boost your Crit Reading score"?

CLEARLY THIS EXPLAINS MY 800.

*Chuckles evilly at her own near-perfect English and Reading ACT scores* Clearly, the multiple readings stack.

*Slumps* Of course, it didn't help my math or science... :( Those weren't very good...

Naah, nothing could help the fact that I'd forgotten my calculator on that day >>;;;

And Hyde gets absolutely no credit for my 750 Math SAT II >(. If he'd been involved, he would have just distracted me.
