Hello!

I've recently launched a new webcomic, The Glass Scientists. If you were a fan of my last comic, Bleeding Heart, or some of the more mad-science-y artwork I've posted over the years, you may want to take a look!

In an alternate Victorian London, a ragtag group of mad scientists evade pitchfork mobs and the madhouse with the help of their charismatic leader-- a man who has harnessed the power of alchemy to split his soul in two. Updates Mondays!

Next weekend I will be traveling to San Fransisco to do a booth at the Alternative Press Expo! I will be selling prints, charms, art books, comic books, and bookmarks! Please stop by if you can! :)

I would also like to thank everyone who applied to my colorist position for my comic The Glass Scientists! I had a great time looking over all the tests and have made my decision! Now it's time for me to hunker down and start working on Chapter 1!!

Finally, if you missed the Kickstarter for my short comic Bleeding Heart, you can still pick up a digital copy here:

EDIT: Applications are now CLOSED! Thank you to everyone who applied! :)

I am looking to hire a colorist for my new webcomic The Glass Scientists!

Coming from an animation background, my art style favors simple, clean cell-shading, limited color palates, and economy of visual storytelling- elaborate, finely rendered oil paintings will not mesh well with my lineart! The value/color work for the comic needs to emphasize character acting and help each image read quickly and clearly (good use of contrast to make the important elements of a shot “pop”).

I will, however, need a colorist with a good sense of lighting for tone and setting! I will be providing lighting thumbnails (and occasionally color keys) for each shot set up, but I need someone will be able to carry that intention through to finished pieces!

You will be paid on a per-page basis at one page per week, though I may bump that up to 2 pages per week for the beginning of chapter 1 or for special events.I’m looking to start in the beginning of October.

Here are some examples of styles similar to what I am looking for: 'Kill Switch Engage', Blindsprings, and Gravity Falls. Also, please see these sample pages from my short comic Bleeding Heart for an idea of the kind of linework I do:

(Note: Since I work on the show, it’s kind of inevitable that I would look to the gorgeous color work on Gravity Falls- I don’t expect something that crazy detailed, of course, but it is worth noting that the crazy amount of variety found in GF backgrounds are accomplished with three fairly simple layers: a cell-shaded flats layer, a shadow layer set to multiply, and a simple light glow layer.)

If you are interested, or if you know someone you would recommend, send comment below or email me at glitterygothic (at) gmail.com ! Please include samples of your work. For my first chapter, I am especially looking for examples of night-time scenes and use of limited color palate!

Hey guys!
I am running a kickstarter this month for my new short comic, Bleeding Heart!
It's a story about an injured werewolf, an amateur scientist, and (mostly) good intentions.

Donate 5$ and you receive a digital copy of the comic, or 10% for a physical book! It looks like I might be able to make this book look real snazzy, too. :)

Hallo!

Once again I will have to apologize for radio silence here- I'm still primarily on Tumblr arythusa.tumblr.com because it's just easier to update, but I've also been busy with work at Gravity Falls and also a side comic project that eats up most of my free time. I should actually be posting artwork from that project here soon. I'm sorry I've rather let notes slide by the wayside- I'm generally much more communicative over Tumblr, so if you have questions for me, please direct them there! :) Thank you!

Also! I have a Twitter account! www.twitter.com/arythusa

I'm very new to the site, so if you have an account as well, please let me know what it is and I would love to add you! Is there a Jekyll and Hyde fandom on Twitter? Is there a steampunk side of Twitter? Please let me know because I can't figure it out. :(

Hello! I just finished putting together a small Etsy shop to sell my extra stock from CTN Expo. I'm quite low on a few items, so if you see something you like, please hurry and snatch it up before it's gone!

I'm selling prints, artbooks, keychains, and bookmarks!

I'm new to the idea of selling stuff online--if anyone has experience in this arena and can see something worth improving in my shop, please drop me a line :)

Hullo, I'm going to have a booth at CTN Expo in Burbank, this weekend, November 15-17! If you're going to be there as well, please look me up. :)

My booth number is XT21, located in the way back of the New Talent area. I'll be selling prints, bookmarks, keychains, and sketchbooks! I'm also sharing my booth with the talented Heather Larkin.

More updates on my tumblr: arythusa.tumblr.com
Hello! Are you still alive? Is anyone still alive?

The major thing I have to announce is that I will be sharing a book at CTN Animation Expo in Burbank! I've never had a booth at anything, ever, but I've wanted to for years. I'm so profoundly nervous! If anyone has any advice for making sketchbooks or buttons or whatever normal people sell at these kinds of things, I would love to hear it!

A couple months ago I started work as a story revisionist on Gravity Falls : ) So that has been taking up the majority of my time, though I'm still developing personal work on the side (very much on the side, frustratingly--did you know that in life, you also have to eat, sleep and move around?)

Once again I do have to admit sheepishly that I mostly update my tumblr now: arythusa.tumblr.com

Hallo! First I need to apologize for the radio silence here--I've been mostly updating my tumblr arythusa.tumblr.com recently and frankly it's just . . . easier to update than deviantArt! : ( You may want to look there, then, for my new work.

For the past several months I was working in the Disney Training program and, more recently, freelancing for Disney TV. Unfortunately I can publish only the very earliest of the training program work, so it must look like I haven't been working very much at all, according to the internet, haha. ^^;

I'm still in the process of looking for a more stable job, so I may not get to properly updating here for some time! For updates please check my tumblr. : )

Oh, also! Everyone please go and watch Hannibal www.hulu.com/hannibal because it is a beautiful wonderful show of death and whimsy.

These guys are available as prints now! I am just starting to learn how to make prints and really have only the faintest idea what I am doing. If anyone has any experience in this field and are feeling generous with their knowledge, please let me know! I have a secret dream to one day sell my work at a convention, but it is a very distant dream at the moment. :<

I would like to do a special run of postcard prints selling for 6$ each! I need at least 20 people willing to buy in order for it to happen, but if anyone is interested, pretty much all of my work here is up for grabs. Please, support thanks!

Actual Reality Update!
I am starting at Disney in the visual development training program in two weeks, so I am working on moving to Burbank. I've found a place which I can hopefully move into this week, though it did . . . attack me today. XD I attempted to open the very fancy glass shower door to move in my shampoo bottles and the entire door shattered! Luckily the cuts I got weren't too deep, but I hope the little house doesn't have any more surprises in store.

Also I have been informed that spiders come into the place occasionally. I am terrified of spiders almost beyond words so I don't know what to do about it!

Hay so, my second Pixar internship is very nearly over
And I am not sure if I have updated once here since that began 8D;

Many apologies! I have been able to do just a couple personal pieces but for the most part, I am afraid I don't have a lot I can show right now! But here are my updates:

I'm most likely taking a few weeks break which will involve a lot of moving about and running about--not sure how much time I will have for personal work *sob*. But if at all possible I will try to make some headway into the plush commissions I have. :3 (If I do have time, I will contact people individually when I am ready to start, since it's been a while since they signed up and I would like to be sure everyone is still interested.) But since that's still a spot up in the air, I will not be accepting new commissions for this exact moment. Sorry!

In "story crap you don't care about" news I've been doing a lot of planning and thinking about my Jekyll and Hyde story and my Haruki story and, in a theoretical world where I have free time, a bunch of new art will be coming from that! There's a lot of new ideas I'm excited about but unfortunately it's hard for me to just show people IDEAS unless there are pictures attached to it, and pictures take time and skill to draw D: sometimes I have no skill D:

Also oh my gosh how amazing is Downton Abbey? I am so hooked.

Hey everypony,

I 100% forgot to make a post of it, but my fourth year film is finished and online!
And also it's on deviantArt now!
otherwise.deviantart.com/art/K…

So, that completes my four Calarts student films! Thanks to anyone who's been around long enough to see each one completed! I graduate May 18th and leave Calarts FOREVAAAAAAR (!!!)

Also, I just found out that, strangely enough, I got the Pixar art internship, so I am actually going up back up north for the summer~

As such, I am afraid I will not be open for new commissions this summer! I will try to finish up all the commissions I have currently within the next couple weeks, ideally before I graduate, oh ho ho . . .

Yeah so the film I have been working on?
My very last Calarts student film?
The reason I have not updated in several months?

It is nearly done!
All I really have to do is render it out and turn it in on time.

I will be uploading it Saturday, April 28th, by the way!

So now is the time for a week full of being totally convinced that people will not like it and I made a bunch of directing mistakes. D: Guh! I had a very similar worry-fit over Paraphernalia--actually, with Paraphernalia I think I spent at least one full day in a near-catatonic state, convinced I had wasted four months on a project that looked shoddy and was too girly to attract animation fans.

Things turned out well for Para but now I am worried for my new film D: IDK, people seemed to like the little test animations I posted so maybe it'll be okay?? I hope!

The film's name is "Kagemono" and it is about a little fox and his shadow. I've posted about the fox, who through strange conversational by-ways has come to be called "Beopup": fav.me/d4cylgn But would anyone be interested in my posting some more concept art and stills from the film during the week before it's uploaded?

Thanks to everyone for their vegetarian recommendations in the last journal!

I am afraid, however, that giving up all meat (I realize I was originally planning to eat fish too, what a wuss!) for Lent is a bit more of a big step than I can really handle. : ( I realized that I have pretty strong Opinions about how I can or cannot eat vegetables (i.e., it seems somehow unnatural for me to mix rice with other things, so dishes like risotto have always seemed a little sacrilegious to me--also I deeply despise beans) knock out an awful lot of the common dishes for vegetarians.

So I've decided I will be cutting out red meat (my favorite kind). XO Since I don't eat much pork either, this basically cuts me down to eating fish and chicken, which are the healthier options anyway. It will still force me to eat more fruits and vegetables so I think it will do SOME good anyhow.

Also another note about commissions! I've posted below my tentative prices for my next round of commissions, so please tell me if these look reasonable to you. : ) A few people recommended going for 12$ instead of 10$ for sketches, which I hope is okay. I was discussing with a friend that my "sketches" basically come out as lineart drawings, so I'm basically combining the two prices into one (also barely anyone ever asks for lineart commissions). I raised the full color one by roughly the same proportion so I hope that sounds okay!

I'm not going to raise my felted plush commissions until I have finished the current batch. This is the first time I've offered them so I want to be sure that people are happy with the product before raising prices!

Three items of business!

Firstly, it's film semester here at Calarts, so once again I am finding myself pretty busy XO As a result, I will not be taking any new commissions until its completion! If anyone on the current list has not sent me information about what they want yet, please do so, so that I can finish up this batch as quickly as possible!

Secondly, I am trying out a bunch of new recipes this semester because I have slightly less nighttime classes. I am trying to practice some no-meat dishes because I am planning on giving up meat (my favorite thing to eat) for Lent XO I am not at all used to eating vegetarian (for these purposes, fish is considered a vegetable) and find quite a few of the recipes . . . troubling (i.e., tofu does not taste remotely like meat to me so I don't like the idea of substituting that in for everything). Anyone have any recipes?

Thirdly! I am considering raising the prices of my sketch commissions to 10$ from 7$, the reason being that I tend to do a good amount of work to give them decent lines and tones, so it ends up being rather more than a sketch >> This will not apply to people who are currently on the list, but does that sound reasonable to everyone?

Hallo! Quick update!

I am opening up commission slots for needlefelt plushes such as the ones I've done here:
arythusa.tumblr.com/tagged/nee…

Anyone who's interested please send me a note. :3 The base price I'm starting with is 25$ plus shipping and cost of supplies (shouldn't be more than a few dollars more).

I'm also dropping commissions that are over six months old if I haven't been able to been able to get in contact with the person to get information or receive payment! : O Eh, it happens every once in a while.

Hullo! So firstly, I've been learning to make needlefelt plushes this semester and would possibly like to begin taking commissions eventually!

But before that I would like to gather some information about how to go about doing that! I have never sold anything three-dimensional before. :\ Despite their small size, needlefelt plushes take a good deal of time to make (at least as long as, or often longer than, full color commissions), require shipping, and have a small extra cost in supplies! Given that, I'm really not sure what I can expect people will be willing to pay for them at all. Thoughts, please?

I finally went ahead and organized some of the plushes I have photographed:
arythusa.tumblr.com/tagged/nee…

I would probably be aiming for a smaller size than this (less supplies, and people seem to find them more appealing anyway)... Um! Aside from that, one or two people have suggested opening an Etsy shop, which I've never done before!

Of course, I'm also not sure if there would be anyone interested--I've had a lot more people notice them IRL than online, which is unusual for me. It could be because, being three dimensional, they just look better IRL--or it could be that there's just not a great deal of demand for them. :\ I don't know! So let me know if this is something you'd be interested in!

So that was the first thing, now the second: just a regular list of bland excuses as to why I haven't been posting so much! All I can really say is there was school and there's a tad of pressure this year on account of graduation, so I've been stitching my portfolios together! That's about it!
